Dhanki belongs to the Bhil languages, which are a subgroup of Indo-Aryan languages. It is often grouped with or considered a dialect of Khandeshi. It is also known by other names, including Dhankavi, Dangi, Dangri, and Tadavi. The language is spoken in several states, with a significant presence in the Dang district of Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Rajasthan.
